A refuge of stone and heart in the center of Enna

After conquering the climb to the “Belvedere of Sicily,” B&B del Centro is the reward you deserve. Located in the beating heart of Enna, just steps from the Duomo and the Castello di Lombardia, this place is not just a spot to sleep, but a deep dive into history. The rooms, some featuring charming exposed stone details, offer that sense of protection and warmth every traveler seeks at the end of a ride.

As we Sicily Divide cyclists always say, riding in Sicily isn’t just a sequence of unforgettable landscapes, but a continuous encounter: with people’s stories, with places where Arabs and Normans once walked, and with that immense Sicilian hospitality that truly deserves to be a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Here, hospitality is a family affair: a sincere smile, a quiet garden where you can let the emotions of the road settle, and the certainty of feeling at home, even when you are far away. It is the perfect stopover to recharge your spirit before getting back in the saddle and heading toward the island’s interior.

Perfect logistics for the cycle tourist

B&B del Centro is designed to eliminate any logistical worries for those riding the Sicily Divide. We know your bike is your most valuable travel companion: that is why we offer secure, covered indoor storage, easily accessible and fully protected. You will also find a dedicated area equipped for routine maintenance and minor repairs—essential after the kilometers and elevation gain you’ve accumulated. The day begins with a breakfast tailored for athletes: sweet and savory, rich and nutritious, to guarantee the right energy boost before departure. Fast Wi-Fi for planning your next stage and laundry service (upon request) complete the offer for a completely worry-free stay.

Enna: The Ombelico of Sicily seen from above

Arriving in Enna is a real challenge: it means climbing up the spine of Sicily to touch the sky at 1,000 meters, reaching the highest provincial capital in the country. Once you park your bike, the feeling is one of total command. You are not just in a historic town; you are standing on the “Navel of the Island” (Umbilicus Siciliae), a strategic point where, on clear days, your gaze can touch three seas and the Mount Etna volcano.

The unmissable experience—legs permitting—is the Castello di Lombardia. More than a manor, it is a fortified citadel: exploring its grounds at twilight, as the stones turn to gold, is the fitting conclusion to the stage. Right next to it, push yourself up to the Rocca di Cerere: a sacred and evocative site, devoid of buildings but filled with a mystical silence, perfect for letting the miles you’ve ridden sink in.

The center, however, should be experienced slowly. Via Roma is the open-air drawing room that leads to the Duomo, a masterpiece of surprising architecture that conceals wooden ceilings behind dark stone walls. Enna is an austere yet panoramic city, best discovered by getting lost in alleyways that suddenly turn into terraces overlooking the Dittaino valley.

But the real prize for the cyclist is gastronomic. Enna’s cuisine focuses on substance: forget light meals; here you recharge with Piacentinu Ennese DOP, a Slow Food Presidium cheese that was once believed to possess healing powers. Tradition has it that the Norman King Roger II (11th century) asked his cheesemakers to add saffron to the sheep’s milk cheese to cure his wife, Adelasia, of depression and loss of appetite. To date, there is no scientific evidence that this cheese actually has these properties, but it is well worth trying with a nice platter of local cured meats or a hot bowl of “frascatula” (the “Polenta of the South”). You might not be cured of any ailments, but you will certainly have enjoyed a tasty, restorative meal. Enna welcomes you with crisp mountain air and leaves you with authentic flavors that will stay with you for the rest of your journey.

Given the significant flow of cyclists in Enna, we recommend booking the accommodation well in advance, and in any case no later than one day before arrival.

At B&B del Centro, hospitality nourishes both the cyclist’s body and mind. The atmosphere feels just like home, with hosts who treat every guest like an old friend—exactly how we Dividers like it. Every time we have visited Enna and met the owners, we have always found a smile and plenty of empathy for the epic feat just completed; after all, we are the ones who tackled “the climb that leads to the climb that leads to Enna,” sweating for every inch of elevation.

The property boasts a popular family restaurant, allowing cyclists to enjoy a dinner featuring local Enna recipes and zero-km products without the risk of falling into tourist traps. At the end of the day, a place like this becomes the beating heart of relaxation: a quiet corner to rest, socialize with other Dividers, and share stories of the adventure over a glass of wine or a cold beer, bringing the stage to a close in perfect harmony.
