The property offers two distinct accommodation options, immersed in total privacy: ‘Casetta Petra’, a historic stone dwelling from 1918, and ‘Casetta Sulle Nuvole’ (House in the Clouds), a wooden lodge with panoramic windows designed to keep you visually connected to the landscape.
For a cyclist, the real value here is complete independence: there is no need to head out again for dinner after a tiring day in the saddle. The houses are stocked with everything you need to cook on-site — pasta, olive oil, potatoes, wine, and water — as well as a traditional wood-fired oven. With fresh eggs and organic fruit available, your post-ride recovery takes place in absolute silence, with a view stretching all the way to Mount Etna.
La Casetta sulle Nuvole is a hidden gem in the heart of Sicily, strategically positioned for those who view cycle tourism as active exploration. Located at 1,000 meters above sea level, near the Monte Cammarata Nature Reserve, it is the ideal base camp to access the dense network of trails in the Sicani Mountains Park — perfect for MTB sessions or trekking immersed in nature.
The location offers a dual experience: from the quiet of the woods, you can quickly transition to the adrenaline of urban exploration. The historic centers of Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini, fused into a single urban fabric, offer an exceptional playground for urban trails, especially on an e-MTB. It is a maze of stairs, steep alleys, and technical passages alternating between descents and climbs. Tackle them with a sporting spirit, but always with maximum attention to local traffic and pedestrians.

Here is a short guide to Cammarata and things to see or do when, in the evening, you have finished your Sicily Divide stage and want to discover the village surrounding you (the same one that likely challenged you on the day’s final climb).
Cammarata is not just a technical stop or a scenic spot to rest your legs. It is a true ‘vertical stronghold’, an Arab-Norman urban fabric clinging to the mountain. For the stopping cyclist, Cammarata offers a deep dive into Sicily’s vertical history.
We recommend getting lost on foot — consider it a ‘cool-down’ walk — in the historic center, starting from the ruins of the Castle, the ancient home of the Lords of Cammarata. The tower, now an exhibition space, is a privileged vantage point to dominate the entire valley and understand the fortified nature of the village at a glance.
Descending through the winding alleys, the first stop is Piazza della Vittoria, featuring the statue of the woman nursing serpents, an ancestral symbol of Cammarata, guardian of deep-rooted traditions. Further on, you reach the Mother Church of San Nicola di Bari: marked by a fire in 1624, it still guards priceless treasures like the canvas by Pietro d’Asaro (the ‘Monoculus Racalmutensis’) and a monumental 16th-century alabaster ciborium.
In the lower part of town, there are two other interesting historic buildings: the church of l’Annunziata and the former church of San Giacomo, now a municipal property housing an Immersive Museum. Here, through a sophisticated multimedia system, you can learn the history and discover interesting details about this mountain community. A quick visit to the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima Cacciapensieri, overlooking the village, is also worthwhile.
If you still have energy, the viewpoints around the historic center — particularly the ‘Ferro di Cavallo’ (Horseshoe) and the Castle — offer spectacular perspectives of the Platani Valley and the Sicani Mountains, perfect for a sunset photo or a moment of silence after the climb.
But above all, Cammarata is a stop for strong, sincere flavors, ideal for those who live by pedal and effort. The Sicani dairy art reigns here: Pecorino Siciliano DOP is the undisputed king of the table, followed by local Caciocavallo and fresh ricotta. The cuisine offers no frills, only substance: local meats, cured meats processed according to tradition, and dishes with the authentic taste of the Sicilian mountains. It is the perfect fuel, rich in noble proteins, to recover energy after a day spent conquering the slopes of the Sicily Divide.
Given the significant flow of cyclists in Cammarata, we recommend booking the accommodation well in advance, and in any case no later than one day before arrival.
These two bike-friendly structures are not just comfortable, welcoming, and equipped with everything needed to recharge after a demanding stage. They are the perfect operational hub for a multi-day stay, allowing you to enjoy a different ride each day: from a cultural tour through the alleys of Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini to a wild exploration of the immense trail network of the Sicani Mountains.
